A couple of days ago, while I was waking up and the first thoughts of the day hit my head, I asked myself: “What’s the best piece of advise I ever got?” this question suddenly turned into: “Whats the best piece of advise I could give?” So I thought about it for quite a while and after a couple of days I found the answer. I felt the need to share it with my friends. So here is the best advice I would give you.
“Read Books!”
It’s somewhat funny that the best advise I can give is that short. Yet I think I’ll explain you why to do so.
We, as human beings, learn from experience, ours and others. Most books contain a sum of experiences the author had and is willing to share with you. Most books have a teaching, no matter what type of book it is. So why not read?
I love self help books, believe me or not I read that kind of shit. I find it very fascinating to read about human behaviour and learning how to change it. Most people say that these books only point out the obvious. Its true, but its also true that most people are also blind to the obvious. If you tell them something they go “DUH” yet 10 minutes later they make that exact same mistake they said was SO obvious. Reading this kind of books helps you keep such thoughts active without forgeting them 10 minutes later.
I usually buy this kind of books as birthday presents, I find nothing else more valubale than some professional advice, yet I get sad when I find out that they haven’t even read what the book was actually about.
Fantasy and Sci Fi books are healthy for your mind. It keeps it busy. How many times have you asked yourself, “How would the world look like if Dragons suddenly woke up?” Or “What did that last page in Assimovs book mean?” Such questions exercise your mind, it keeps the “rust” away.
I find manuals the hardest to read. A lot of concentrated information with strict examples. Most of them have no spark or no other means (such as humor) to help you memorise the information. If you understand this kind of book as easy as the others congratulation, you’re a fracking genius!
Here are the 5 books I advise everybody to read:
Provocative Therapy by Frank Farelly
- this book will teach you how to get back on earth when you get depressed and, even better, it will teach you how to bring others back aswell. It’s a must read if you want to be a strong character and to be respected and known as a person you can count on.
Pathways to Success by Dale Carnegie
- okay, I have to admit I haven’t finished this book yet. BUT I still use a lot of it. It teaches you how to interact with other people and understand general social psychology.
Every time I get into an argument my mind races back to this book.
Rich Dad, Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki
-Now this book is really something… its teachings are probably the most valubale I have ever got for making money. This book teaches you how to think in order to make money. THAT SIMPLE! Every time I read a book by this guy I start laughing at how well he can explain things in just one page that take one year of study at university.
Color of Magic by Terry Pratchett
- This is my favourite author of fantasy books. It’s a great read, funny as hell, it will keep your mind on ice for a quite a while. I seriously don’t know what else to write about this book, its that AWSOME.
Jamie’s Kitchen by Jamie Oliver
- okay and now to complete the cycle of what books you should read to get your life together I advise you to buy this Cook Book. It has great tips and tricks and it teaches you how to eat healthy.
Reading these books won’t make your life perfect but applying their teaching will sure as hell get you at least close.
So don’t forget… Wisdom is sawn through books. You just need to harvest their content.
